Salary: from £27,430.00 – £28,808.47 (depending on experience) + generous benefits package

The Role

Headland Archaeology work on a wide range of exciting archaeological projects of all scales throughout the UK. With the continued use and expansion of our paperless recording system we are strengthening our data team within Headland. We are seeking an individual who can support our data officers train, develop, and support our fieldwork team and delivery data quality assurance. You will be self-driven with a positive outlook and good understanding of British Archaeology. You will have an awareness of data management activities (paperless archaeological recording, photography, and project data management) across the company with assistance and supervision from our data officers.

 

You will help support the coordination of Headland’s data gathering activities under the supervision of our Data Officers and Senior Data Officer. These activities include training and support; equipment management and logistics; data security and processing; quality assurance and data presentation. You will be part of a small team of skilled technical staff, and you will provide hands-on support for our paperless recording system. There will be a mix of office and field-based work and you will be supported by our Data Officers, Senior Data Officer and overseen by the Technical Services Manager. You must be willing to travel as required to fulfil the requirements of the role. You will work closely with the Survey and GIS teams within the Technical Services team to help make sure out contracting data is to the highest possible standard.

Key Responsibilities

Project Work

  • Point of contact for smaller projects for data queries and support.
  • Support Data Officers in their role as designated support staff for larger projects.
  • Support smaller projects by engaging with the project teams and helping to ensure that the skills, resources, and support are in place to effectively gather, process and disseminate project data.
  • Preparation of primary data for post-ex analysis following departmental procedures.
  • Aiding in the preparation of digital archive for ADS
  • Set up of digital site services such as Site Diary

 

Development and Support

  • Delivering technical support
  • Seeking opportunities to maximise the value of our data
  • Supporting other activities of the Technical Services department

 

People

  • Serve as data steward for the contracting team
  • Collaborate with other Headland teams and departments as required
  • Communicate regularly and clearly with other members of your team and other stakeholders as required.

 

Safety, Health, Environment and Quality

  • Hands-on analysis of working processes and data flow, including monitoring small data sets for data quality and aiding data officers with larger data sets.
  • Ensure the Data Lifecycle is followed
  • Working safely on site, remotely and in the office

 

Equipment

  • Aiding in the management of cameras and helping support IT with the paperless recording equipment fleet. This includes maintenance and deployment.

 

Essential Key Skills

  • Degree level education or higher in a relevant subject area
  • Enthusiasm for new ideas and improving existing processes
  • Interest in British archaeology and a desire to acquire relevant knowledge
  • Use of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel
  • Suitable technical skills or willingness to learn: Sound understanding of archaeological recording; data tidying and presentation. Technical support of tablets and other equipment on site.
  • Full valid UK driving licence and willingness to drive company vehicles
  • Willingness to travel and work on projects across the UK
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • A desire to work with a team, develop and learn
  • Willing to embrace inclusion and diversity
