PROJECT OFFICER (GEOPHYSICS)

Salary: from £31,313.55 – £34,751.90 (depending on experience) + generous benefits package

Hours: Full time, 37.5h/week

Locations: Based in Yorkshire & North office, Cleckheaton or Boxworth, Cambridgeshire although travel nationwide will be required

Contract Type: Permanent (with 6 month probationary period)

Due to a large volume of work the geophysical survey team at Headland are looking to recruit additional staff. You will be joining a team of experienced geophysicists with over 60 years combined experience.

The Role

Your work will primarily involve conducting a range of geophysical surveys (magnetometer, electromagnetic, earth resistance and GPR), as well as office-based processing, analysis, and reporting. As part of the geophysical survey team you will get involved in several large and exciting projects across the UK and EU. We have many large scale infrastructure projects ongoing into 2024, which include landscape wide 1000+ha sites and linear schemes. Working away and travelling in new places is a normal part of this role.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate a range of geophysical surveys in the field. Especially large scale infrastructure projects.
  • Production of high quality geophysical survey reports.
  • Quality control, processing and interpretation of geophysical data.
  • Provide information to and liaise with the client as directed by the project manager.
  • Help develop and mentor more junior staff.

Key skills requirements

Applicants should have relevant experience in the field and commercial experience would be preferred. However, we will consider candidates from outside the archaeology sector if they have appropriate geophysics skill sets.

We expect applicants to meet the criteria below:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in commercial geophysics
  • A general working knowledge of archaeological geophysics
  • A Degree in Archaeology, or in a relevant subject
  • Good technical awareness – ability to solve problems in the field
  • Previous experience of undertaking geophysical survey and/or interpreting data
  • Willing to work outdoors in all weather
  • A “Can do” attitude and willingness to learn
  • Good organisational & communication skills
  • High level of use of English language
  • Full UK manual driving license and willingness to drive company vehicles
  • Willingness to work away from home
  • Experience of supervising geophysical survey teams
  • Embrace inclusion and diversity as a leader
  • Willingness to develop your people skills
  • Good technical awareness – ability to solve problems in the field

  • Membership of the CIfA
