GIS Supervisor

Salary: from £27,430.00 – £28,808.47 (depending on experience) + generous benefits package

Hours: Full time, 37.5h/week

Locations: Based in Headland Midlands & West (Hereford), South & East (Silsoe), Scotland (Edinburgh) or Yorkshire & North (Cleckheaton). Hybrid working allowed.

Contract Type: Permanent

The Role

Headland Archaeology work on a wide range of exciting archaeological projects of all scales throughout the UK. The role of the GIS team is to ensure the smooth flow of spatial data through the fieldwork stage. We build systems, promote skills and provide resources to make this happen. The GIS Supervisor will play an integral part in implementing Headland’s GIS strategy across the business. Including providing Archaeological GIS support, outputs and training to the contracting field team and the rest of the company.

 

You will be self-driven with a positive outlook. You will have some experience in GIS drawing production work and capable of working on several projects at the same time, often with fast turnaround times. You will be a good team worker who learns quickly, can promote new ideas and new ways of working.

 

You will be responsible for supporting GIS project design and creating working drawings to support our contracting team, as well as processing and managing field survey data for post-excavation work. This includes the application of procedures; data security and processing; quality assurance and data presentation. You will be expected to work as part of a small team of skilled technical staff. Your work will be managed and supported by the Senior GIS Officer.

Key Responsibilities

Project Work

  • Help support the GIS team to produce project design and working drawings for the Contracting team
  • Processing survey and spatial data as required
  • Producing GIS deliverables
  • Carrying out GIS analysis tasks
  • Producing and submitting GIS archive submissions for field projects

 

Development and Support

  • Contributing to research and development into new or alternate GIS and data management methods and processes
  • Application of GIS and data management procedures, including GIS data security
  • Supporting other activities of the Technical Services department

 

People

  • Enabling easy access to GIS data for the Contracting team and others
  • Liaising with other GIS users in the department to ensure a smooth flow of data
  • Providing GIS training to the wider company

 

Safety, Health, Environment and Quality

  • Following the GIS Lifecycle and supporting others

 

Essential Key Skills

  • Experience of producing high quality drawings quickly in GIS
  • Understanding of archaeological project design
  • Interest in British archaeology and a desire to acquire relevant knowledge
  • Experience with GIS
  • Sound understanding of survey data processing, tidying and quality assurance
  • Managing GIS data effectively and ensuring it is safe and secure
  • GIS data presentation and dissemination, including assisting in access for multiple users
  • Use of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel

 

Desirable Skills

  • Python programming
  • Database management
  • Surveying experience
  • Photogrammetry
  • Illustration experience
