Headland Archaeology is seeking an organised and proactive Archaeological Logistics & Equipment Officer to oversee the coordination, maintenance, and movement of fieldwork equipment across our offices and sites nationwide. This is a hands-on role supporting the effective delivery of our archaeological projects by ensuring that field teams have the right tools and materials, in the right place, at the right time.
The travel requirements will typically be limited to approximately 150 miles each way, with overnight accommodation provided in rare instances where it is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Audit and maintain an accurate inventory of fieldwork equipment and consumables, ensuring appropriate storage and stock levels across all offices.
- Oversee the maintenance, repair, and replacement of field equipment to ensure it is safe, functional, and fit for purpose.
- Coordinate the packing, dispatch, and delivery of equipment to fieldwork sites in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Development of central storage facility.
- Arrange the collection, storage, or redeployment of equipment at the completion of projects.
- Manage the transport of environmental samples and bulk finds from site to Headland offices.
- Maintain central and regional storage areas in an organised, safe, and compliant condition.
- Implement relevant health and safety procedures and promote best practice in equipment use and handling.
- Undertake other related duties as required to support fieldwork operations.
We’re looking for someone who combines practical ability with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. You’ll be able to manage multiple moving parts, work systematically, and take pride in keeping our equipment and logistics running smoothly.
Essential Skills:
- Minimum of 6 months’ experience in a practical, hands-on working environment.
- Full driving licence, with experience driving vans up to 3.5T.
- Strong IT skills (for inventory tracking, communication, and coordination).
- Logical and systematic approach to work.
- Problem-solving ability and confidence in making decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Desirable Skills:
- Interest in the heritage industry
- Experience in areas such as tool sharpening or low-level repair
