Heritage Consultancy
Archaeological Clerk of Works (ACoW) provides on-site management and coordination of all archaeological activities on major construction projects. The ACoW acts as the single point of contact between the client, the contractor, the archaeological contractor, and the relevant planning authority, ensuring that all archaeological requirements are met efficiently and without causing unnecessary delays to the construction programme.
We have extensive experience of providing ACoW services on some of the UK’s largest and most complex construction projects, including major road schemes, wind farms, pipelines, and power stations. Our ACoWs are experienced project managers who understand the pressures and priorities of major construction projects and are skilled at finding practical solutions to archaeological challenges.
The ACoW is responsible for ensuring compliance with planning conditions and the archaeological Written Scheme of Investigation, coordinating the archaeological fieldwork programme with the construction programme, liaising with statutory bodies and stakeholders, and providing regular progress reports to the client and the planning authority.
