Identifying & managing potential risk

The Consultancy team focuses on identifying and managing potential risk for our clients. The best time to deal with heritage issues is early on in the life of a development. From the start of the project, our role is to get our clients through the planning process with the minimum fuss.

Headland’s Heritage Consultancy team has an established track-record in providing advice on cultural heritage matters and can provide input to all stages of development.

The benefit to our clients is that we work with you from  appraisal through to delivery of the consented application, and from initial feasibility studies to impact assessment and implementation of mitigation.

We have gained particular experience in the field of renewable energy.  To date we have been involved in over 150 wind farms, as well as several biomass and energy-from-waste plants.

Our services cover on and offshore developments. The solar energy is a fast growing sector that requires heritage input and we have developed a bespoke report (sub-EIA) and the expertise to offer services that directly address the planning needs of these developments. Outside the renewable sector, we have been involved in numerous opencast collieries, quarries, utilities, off-shore cable laying and master-planning projects.

Feasibility Studies

Headland regularly provides feasibility studies, giving early warning of potential cultural heritage issues. By working with our clients at the earliest stages of a project, we can provide the expert understanding of the constraints and risks associated with the site, and allow our clients to make informed decisions on how to proceed.

Desk Based Assessments

The Desk-Based Assessment (DBA) is a vital tool in the early stages of the planning process. Headland has extensive experience in providing well-researched and succinct DBAs, which give our clients the information they need to assess potential risk, as well as the right level of information to support their planning application.

Heritage Statements

Our experts provide quality Heritage Statements that accurately assess risk and best serve the client’s project. As a result of changes in the planning process, there is an increased requirement for Heritage Statements to accompany planning applications, and Headland’s team can help ensure that all heritage risks are fully considered and mitigated.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

Our Heritage Consultancy team is second to none and it has considerable experience in delivering the cultural heritage contribution to the Environmental Statement. Our work can be subject to close forensic examination and we leave no stone unturned in delivering a thoroughly robust cultural heritage impact assessment.
